Paul was telling Timothy something very important that he wanted him to know. I was informing him of what to expect and what the future of the church would be like. This was not a very bright future for the organized church.

The phrase the last days was a technical term used in several places of the New Testament; speaks of the last days of the church, those days that immediately precede the rapture of the church. The last days of the church are not the last days of the nation of Israel, which were mentioned repeatedly in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament the last days were called "the time of the end," which is equivalent to the period of the Great Tribulation. This is quite different from the last days of the church, which precede the event in which Christ will gather His church.

Now, the apostasy that began in the Church in the days of the Apostle Paul will continue. Paul warned the Ephesian believers that, after his death, false teachers would enter the church. And he did it with the following words we found in Acts 20: 29-30). For I know that after my departure there will be in the midst of you ravenous wolves, who will not spare the flock. And of yourselves men will arise who will speak perverse things to drag disciples after them. These people would not expose them to the Word of God but would rather spiritually pluck the congregations. It was evidently that the false teachers have always sheared the sheep conscientiously. This is the impossible dream of many idealists and of many people who have lived with their heads hidden down the sand, like the ostrich, and have never faced reality.

Instead, let's look at what will happen in the last days. In the next verses we have 19 different descriptions. It is a dangerous offspring but we are going to examine it because they present the best image that the Bible offers of what is happening in our time. We believe that we are heading towards the last days of the church. The reason for affirming this is that the details included in these verses have appeared at this time. If one looks back at the history of the church, it will surely prove that some of these elements have become visible. But we do not believe that one could never find a period in which all of them are as evident as the days in which we live. We believe that we are now in those "dangerous times" that are described in this section. We will not know how much longer this situation will last, but surely this will get worse; in no way will it improve.

I think we are reaching times in which being a Christian will cost something, it will have a price. On one occasion Melvin Laird, who would later become the Secretary of Defense of the United States, made the following statement; We do not know in what circumstances he stated the following: "In this world, being a believer is becoming increasingly unpopular, and soon it can become dangerous." When was the last time you read a sympathetic article or one that sympathized with the position of the Bible on any issue? The media often ignore the news about true Christianity. If a spokesperson for the church makes known his position from the point of view of the Bible, his statements are sometimes distorted or distorted. Now if a preacher or pastor commits an illegal action, of course, he will occupy the main headlines or the first page; But if that pastor has led people to salvation and has restored their lives so they can live together in society, then that fact is ignored.
