I want to speak clearly and accurately. I am one of those who believe in the inspiration of the Word of God. We think that it is the only system that deals in a consistent way, the whole Bible, conferring a normal, literal and real meaning to the teachings, predictions and promises that God pronounced through His messengers, who wrote under the control of the Spirit Holy.

This way of interpreting the Bible, like others, can leave us with some problems or questions, but it solves and clarifies many more than any other interpretation of the Biblical text. To mention an example, we recognize that the Sermon on the Mount looks to the future kingdom and that it will be the law of the kingdom. However, I also believe that it has a message for us in our day.

But I believe that in the Great Tribulation, that prayer will have a profound meaning for those who live at that time. We have never excluded the Sermon on the Mount. Actually, we preach about him. It shows that the human being does not reach the level of the norms indicated by God. We also find that the Our Father prayer is helpful. I use it also as my prayer. What we have to notice is that there is an interpretation of the Scriptures, that is one thing.

Another different one is the application of the Scriptures. The interpretation of a verse of Scripture will teach us what it means in its context and situation. It may not have been written for us at all. We could mention many commandments presented in the Old Testament, which are not commandments given to us. However, the application of all the Holy Scriptures is for us. God has something very important to teach us throughout the Bible.

Now, I go back to 2 Chronicles 7:14. The occasion or the context is, as we have seen, the dedication of the temple of David built by Solomon. It was the Word of God to Solomon, regarding that land and on that day. After the dedication, Solomon addressed to God that great prayer that we have already had occasion to mention. God remembered the prayers of His people and said to Solomon, in verse 14: "My people, on whom my name is called." Notice you: "My people." Who was he going to? For, "my people on whom my name is invoked" referred to Israel. That is, God was speaking to Solomon about Israel. Now, if they would humble themselves, pray, seek Him and stop their misbehavior, then God promised the Israelites three things: He would listen to their prayer, forgive them, and return prosperity to their country. These were concrete conditions that God set for Israel, and the history of that people demonstrated the accuracy and literalness of those aspects.

When one goes to the New Testament he finds in Matthew 3: 2 John the Baptist saying: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The Lord Jesus Christ repeated that demand, calling on the nation to accept His conditions, so that the promises of God might be fulfilled. It was a legitimate offer. In our time, the Israelites have been scattered all over the world. They can not have peace on that land because they have not fulfilled those conditions. This is, then, a literal interpretation.

Now we see the application. This verse has a message for me. I can not leave it aside, just because God did not address it to me. I think he has a formula for this time. It says: "My people." Now, who are those who belong to His people these days? He has a people today, that people we call the Church or the body of Christ, formed by those who have accepted the Savior.

I continue now, with this verse 14, here in chapter 7, of the Second Book of Chronicles, we have a phrase that says: "if they pray". Certainly, in many passages of the New Testament we are asked to pray. The Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples to watch and pray, and the letters or epistles contain numerous commandments about prayer. For example, we are told in Ephesians 6: "Praying at all times with all prayer and supplication." And then, in this same verse 14 of 2 Chronicles, it says: "and seek my face," which is also a New Testament counsel. For example, in chapter 3: 1 and 2 of the letter of the apostle Paul to the Colossians, we are told: "If, then, you have risen with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. " Then we continue reading here in this verse 14, from chapter 7 of the Second Book of Chronicles: "and they turned from their wicked ways" and this also applies to us. God, dear listener, has much to say about the repentance of the believers.In the book of Revelation, chapter 3, verse 19, it says: "I rebuke and chasten all that I love, be zealous therefore, and repent." Therefore, repentance is something proper to the son of God.
We ask ourselves then, what part belongs to God? Well, God has made a promise here in 2 Chronicles; He said that He would hear. And in the first letter of the apostle John, chapter 3, verse 22, we read: "And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." God has also promised to forgive. It says 1 John 1: 9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins."

And finally, it says here in 2 Chronicles 7: "and I will heal your land," as the final part of this verse 14. This, of course, does not apply to us. We do not see anywhere in the New Testament where He says He will do that. There is no promise on this day that says God guarantees a material blessing. By being united to Christ we are blessed, dear listener, with all kinds of spiritual blessings. Spiritually, before Him we were foreigners, enemies of God, but we have been made children of God by being redeemed by the blood of Christ. And our sins have been brought. The Spirit of God transforms us following the model of Christ, comforts us and gives us strength for our daily life. Heaven is our home, and our goal, the new Jerusalem. We have been released from punishment. These are, then, our blessings. They go far beyond the promise of a prosperous land.
