   Omaha High Low, Eights or Better

    Omaha H/L is same as Omaha with one exception; the pot is divided into two parts, high hand and low hand. Each taking 50% of the pot.

1. High Hand- Best five card hand using two private cards and three community cards. High hand takes half of the total pot.                
2. Low Hand- Lowest hand possible using two private cards and three community cards. Eights and lower are in play. Nines and higher do not qualify for a low hand. For example; Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 is the nut low hand. Ace, 3, 4, 5, 6 is the second nut. The worst low hand is 8, 7, 6, 5, 4. 

*If there is no qualifying low hand, the entirely pot is paid to the high hand.

    Now that you understand the high and low hands, let's talking about scooping the pot. You can scoop the pot by having the best high hand in play and the best low hand in play. Let's say you have Ad, Ks, 3s and 2d. The community board is 2c, 4d, Kd, 9h and 5s. You win 50% of the pot with the nut low hand and 50% of the pot with a straight. You can also chop the low hand if someone has A3 as well. You can lose the high hand if someone has a higher straight, like a 3,6. If nobody has these cards you scoop it up.

Private cards; Ad and 3s

Community cards; 2c, 4d and 5s

    Omaha H/L can get confusing, so make sure you double and triple check your hand. I like playing Omaha H/L because most players are not as advanced as Hold’em players. I also like the low hand factor.
