Winter Solstice - watercolours on paper

Hello everyone Hivers and welcome back to my blog. Yesterday, 22 December, we had the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, which marks the shortest day of the year. Today I am sharing a watercolour landscape I imagined to remember this cold day. So I went to make a snowy landscape with sunlight and respective coloured shadows.
This is the preparatory painting with the slightly coloured landscape.

I painted the sky with colour variations from cobalt blue to cerulean, from light purple to teal.

I left very light areas to highlight the sunlight.

Then I coloured the shadows of the trees with cerulean and brown and the shadows of the small mountain huts.

Finally, I gave shades of purple and blue on the lower part to recall a frozen river flowing through the valley.

Solstizio d'inverno - acquarelli su carta

Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Ieri 22 dicembre, nell'emisfero boreale abbiamo avuto il solstizio d'inverno che sancisce il giorno più corto dell'anno. Oggi condivido un paesaggio ad acquarello che ho immaginato per ricordare questo giorno freddo. Così sono andato a realizzare un paesaggio innevato con la luce solare e le rispettive ombre colorate. Questo è il dipinto preparatorio con il paesaggio leggermente colorato. Ho dipinto il cielo con variazioni di colore dal blu cobalto, al ceruleo, dal viola chiaro al verde acqua. Ho lasciato delle zone molto chiare per mettere in risalto la luce solare. Poi ho colorato le ombre degli alberi con il ceruleo e il marrone e le ombre delle piccole baite di montagna.
Infine ho dato tonalità di viola e blu sulla parte bassa a ricordare un fiume ghiacciato che scorre nella valle.
