I think you are missing a very important side of work which is fullfilment. You could be in a very well paid job, with wonderful corportate culture & colleagues, close to home and challenging and still be unhappy with what you do.

The lack of fullfilment usually comes from either not being challenged enough or just thinking you do not contribute enough to society by doing whatever your position requires you to. The first one is usually due to bad management but the second one is a whole other story.
