I know that both things exist in the world,
the light of the stars, the darkness of the depths.
But I cannot decide which I like the most,
the starlight or the hellish dark.
The stars above the mountain shine
with a style they rule over the barren land,
but darkness surrounds the mountain
like a dark mist rolling over a wasteland.
Never have I seen a star up close,
but I have kissed the dark.
I wonder what light is like
for I have only known the dark.
Even in the danger of the dark,
I feel safe, secure, fortified.
But the light makes me vulnerable,
insecure, paranoid, miserable.
It shows me my innermost flaws
and the perfection I can never achieve.
Some say the world will end in the dark
some say it will end in the light of the stars.
I hope that it ends in the dark
for it will hide our most primal fears
it will curtain our flaws
that, if known, could dangers severe.
The universe began in a blast of light
but it will end in the fade of dark.
For it is written even in the fates of the lamps
to be burnt out once they are lit, fade to black.
