Back to El Abra: Childhood Memories, Tropical Green, and a Gentle Look at Drought
Hi, my lovely Hive people! 💛
I’ve always thought the best thing you can do is make time for yourself and do what you love… and today I finally made it back to a place I used to visit often as a child. Being there again brought back so many memories and such a beautiful feeling of nostalgia.
I’m sharing some photos I took on the way to a reservoir next to a small hill. This place is called El Abra, and it’s on Isla de la Juventud, also known as Isla de Pinos, in Cuba.
What I love most about this place is the nature all around it: that intense tropical green and the glow of the sun 😎 while the afternoon is still young.
When we arrived, I noticed something that made me stop and think: the water level 💧 was very low, even though it had rained quite a bit these past few days. It was one of those realities you only truly start to notice when they touch you closely…
Drought 🏜️ is gaining ground step by step, and we barely notice it. We only start to see it once it’s already firmly rooted in our reality.
In places like this, you can always spot the occasional fisherman trying his luck 🍀, hoping to bring something home to eat. And there are also people who are happy just to come here and enjoy the quiet, green views, to meditate, or simply to enjoy being alive.

I hope you enjoy the scenery as much as I did. 🌿
And you—do you like going back to those childhood places that bring back so many memories? I’ll be reading your comments. ✨
