Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Social Media challenge and I'll do a post on the Broken Arrows ruleset. It was supposed to be for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge, but I got the challenge mixed up, and so I'll have it as the social media post instead.
About the Ruleset
Broken Arrows
The Broken Arrows ruleset states that "Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles". This means that battles are restricted to Melee, Magic and non-attacking monsters.
Battle Ruleset(s)
Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.
Earthquake Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round
Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles
Only the Fire, Water, Earth, Life and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 18
Format: Modern Tournament, Bronze level cap

Summoner: Obsidian - This increases the Magic Attack of all my Magic Monsters by 1.
The Line Up
vs
| Position | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vampire Bat | It is a melee monster and has the Flying ability, and is rather fast which hopefully allows it to dodge some attacks as the tank |
| 2 | Regal Peryton | It has a decent amount of health too and has the Flying ability too and great here since the ruleset allows it to attack from any position. |
| 3 | Goblin Psychic | It has the Heal ability to allow the first 2 cards to last longer and also here as one of the main magic damage dealers. |
Strategy
The combination of rulesets here meant:
- Ranged monsters cannot be used
- Non-flying monsters are at a disadvantage too
- Legendary monsters cannot be used
Given these 3 combinations, coupled with the low mana cap, a good strategy would be to use melee and magic monsters with the Flying ability as far as possible. So my first 2 cards were flying monsters and the third card was the Goblin Psychic to provide some heals to help the first 2 cards last a little longer. It will last a maximum of 3 rounds given the Earthquake ruleset.
The opponent used a different strategy, counting on Quora Towershead's heals and Bloodlust ability to out-damage and outlast the opponent. Fortunately for me, the Vampire Bat dodged the first physical attack by Quora Towershead. As a result of that, it allowed my monsters to finish off Quora Towershead before it has a chance to build up sufficient additional stats from its Bloodlust ability.
Thoughts on the Broken Arrows Ruleset
The Broken Arrows ruleset is a fairly simple ruleset, where Ranged monsters cannot be used at all, and one of my favourite strategies involving the monsters with Martyr abilities cannot be used. However, there are still good strategies like shielding up and relying on Magic monsters as far as possible.
