Hello. My name is Arabel Udonsek. I am a student of the University of Abuja and my course of study is History and Diplomatic Studies.

A fellow Nigerian would understand that you don't always get the course you apply for. It's a funny system of what you ordered versus what you got. Only a few people are lucky to have that merit of getting what they applied for, but I was not that lucky.

I had always dreamt of studying Law. Even after writing JAMB the first time and not getting it, I went for Law the second time. At the time, even my mom was like 'It's like you will leave this Law first oo', but I insisted on it.

Then I got admission. But not what I wanted. I got History. Leave the Diplomatic Studies aside cause that was just a bonus. The main focus was History.

There was the joy of being offered admission after waiting for so long, but the fact that it was not what I wanted stole the joy after a while of celebrating it. But I accepted it and moved into studying History (and parts of Diplomatic Studies) ๐Ÿ˜‚

Now, studying History was not easy. Especially when it was not what I wanted in the first place.

But I pushed through 100 and 200 level and now, I'm in my 300 level. And to be honest with you, I can't say I'm loving it or I've found a new liking for it, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be at some point. I even started thanking God I didn't get into Law. Cause the stress I was โ€” and still am โ€” going through is not something I would have been able to cope with if I was in the faculty of Law.

Another thing about me is that I love writing. I also want to become an author, but finishing a book has been a big problem for me for years. I hope I get past that soon ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™. And history all boils down to writing after all the research and gathering of evidence is done. It is documented in writing. So you could say it was a win for me somehow.

I got to realize that if I'm going to make something out of this situation, I should start to make a career out of it from now โ€” history and writing. God bless my sister who gave me the idea of posting about history to start my career as a writer (and if I'm willing to pursue it, a historian).

I also got to realize that a lot of things were not being taught enough in school. Certain details about Africa's history were not being hammered on, and I had a problem with that cause our history is not just about the slavery and colonialism we went through. We have more stories than that to tell.

We had strong Kings and Rulers who held down Empires for many years before they fell. The women were not left aside either. Africa had strong, resilient and powerful Queens and Empresses who led their people in the ways they were meant to be led.

So I thought coming into Hive and posting about things like this was a good way to study for school and be able to post educational content as well.

So here I am, making my introduction post and inviting everyone to come with me on this history journey.

I am going to post about history in its full form, from Africa to Europe to the Middle East and to Asia, but I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria, so definitely expect the history of my country and continent a lot more. But you have nothing to worry about. Africa is packed with amazing history and I don't plan on making it boring.
Thank you for having me.
Thank you buttcoins@buttcoins for the correction you gave on my first post. I decided to correct that by making another introduction post that truly explains myself well. Thank you very much.

Now, let's talk history ๐ŸŒ
