Why do we want to practice photography?

Why do we do this? Why do we spend hours outside just to get that one perfect shot?  Why do we sleep outside in tents or our cars, waiting for the sun to rise?

Whether we do photography as a hobby or as a career, we are willing to spend a lot of money for travelling and to buy new equipment.  Other people can spend money on golf, travelling etc.  But, for them it does not necessarily mean that they have to do it in isolation like a photographer.

Through the lens of a camera we learn to see the world through new eyes and experience it.

A short history of photography:

What do you need to become a photographer?

Have you ever looked at a photograph and wondered… how did they take such a beautiful picture?

Beautiful photos starts with good photographers

Knowledge of your camera and equipment is important, but a photographer must also have these personal properties:

Flexibility and adaptability

A good photographer must be aware of the technological changes in this field, but must not be afraid to use old technology and techniques when he thinks he can’t get better results.

Stay Humble

A photographer must be willing to learn from mistakes and to always stay humble when or wherever he works with other photographers

An example of a creative photo

Vision and creativity

Know when to take a photo and when not to.  This is like the 6th sense of the photographer.  Don’t be afraid to experiment.  If it doesn’t work, then at least you know that you have tried.  If it works, then you will have an incredible photo and got more knowledge.

Sensitivity

A photographer must be able to see the color, texture and light.  Also be sensitive about people’s feelings when working with them

Knowledge

Know your topic and try to bring the quality and properties of that topic to light with your photography.

Patience

A photographer must have patience, waiting for hours to get the perfect shot.

An eye for detail

Instead of taking a photo of a tree, for example, rather go closer and take a photo of the texture of the tree bark.  Developing an eye for detail, will open up a whole new opportunity for the photographer.

Hobby of Career

Is your photography just a hobby, or is it a career that must provide food on the table?

Equipment

Below, the items/equipment will make life easier for you as a photographer, if you are serious about it. You don’t have to get all of it at the same time, remember, this can be an expensive business

  • Camera – dSLR and lenses (the beginner photographer will be able to work with a wide-angle, macro and zoom lens)

  • Extra batteries
  • Filters – UV – protects the lens of the camera
