Photography - Viewing frame
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take photos with your eyes?
Seeing something beautiful and “snap”… a picture was taken and imprinted in your mind.
Just think of a camera and how it works. If your eyelid was the shutter, your cornea and lens of the eye work together to focus on the image taken and the iris to control the amount of light that enter the eye.
Unfortunately, not yet!!
A picture can say a thousand words!!
But to be able to do that in a way so that other people can understand, there are a few basics principals of a camera that must be understood. An appreciation of the potential and restriction of your camera is a vital preliminary to explore the art of photography.
In the next few lessons I am going to teach you a bit more about photography. I’m also still learning photography, as I think photography is practice, practice and practice. The more you practice, the better you will become.
The difference between the human eye and a camera is that the eye stores the photo in the brain, which is impossible to explain a beautiful image to someone without seeing it. The photographer can take a picture and print them or manipulate the picture. A photographer can be influenced by a lot of things in nature, before taking a picture. Nature can have a big influence on what a photo will look like, and how it will be taken. A photographer has to find a scene to take a picture of, and not create it.
How a photographer sees an object or scene and he is able to record it on camera, is what makes a good photographer. A photographer can take a photo of anything and make it look good.
A viewing frame
This simple device can be used for a beginner photographer, to eliminate other surroundings and isolate a potential image. This can be moved around the field of view and at different lengths away from the eye,. You can make a viewing frame yourself, take a black paper or card about 20cm x 25 cm and cut it open in the middle about 15 x 10 cm. Hold this in front of one eye, with the other eye closed, just as you would do when taking a photo, When your viewing frame is held 25cm in front of your eye, this field of view will be the same as taking a picture with a 35mm lens.
