Digital photography

“In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.” “There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” “Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.

Photography has developed in a very short time.  With the rise of digital photography, film photographers of the older (n) days had an opinion that digital photography is too expensive, that it is something that will go by quickly and that digital photography will have no influence on film photography.

This, however, was shown to be incorrect.  Digital photography is here to stay, however, it will never bring back the nostalgic emotion like film photography, but digital photography has a lot more advantages and hopefully we won’t miss film photography too much.

Whether you like film photography or digital photography, we cannot say that the one is better than the other but they certainly do look “different”.

Film-and digital photography has its own advantages as well as disadvantages.  The biggest difference of digital photography is that it is, indeed, too expensive, but once you have all the equipment for digital photography, you will be able to use it for years.

The biggest difference between digital and film photography is the way that the image is taken.  The one has a film and the other a sensor. The basic principals of photography like composition, lighting, focus and field of depth stays the same.

Advantages of digital photography:

Digital photography has the following advantages above film photography:

  • It is more practical
  • It is technologically advanced
  • It is creative
  • Cheaper than film

An example of photo-editing

With a digital camera we can do the following

  1. We can take hundreds of photos and store them (something that was much more expensive with film because if the film was finished you had to print the photos and buy a new film)
  2. You can see the picture immediately after it’s taken
  3. You can retake a photo if you are not satisfied with the first one
  4. You can use the automatic focus technique, which helps that photos are more clear and you can be more creative
  5. You can experiment with photos and retake them if you are not satisfied
  6. You can edit photos on a computer, fix old photos, adjust the colour and brightness etc.
