So... A few days ago in the evening as it was starting to get dark I heard police sirens coming down near where I live, at first they went up Chavez and then down to Crescent Moon Ranch.
They were going really fast and I got a weird feeling immediately.
A little while later another two police cars went down the same way and then a police helicopter started circling overhead for I'm guessing between 20 and 30 minutes.
Gave me the impression they were looking for someone.
Later I found out that during that time period our water company called to let us know that there was a shooting in the neighborhood.
Our other neighbor who used to be a nurse called the police to try to find out what ws going on and I'm told that they told her that "There isn't a danger, but if we need to evacuate we'll let you know".
When my dad told me that he said it felt like that was a contradiction, if there was no safety issue... Why would he speak about a potential evacuation?
Yesterday I'm told further that our neighbor somehow found out more details and that there was a shoot out at the creek and someone was murdered and that the police were looking for whoever was involved.
First of all I think that's pretty crazy to have that happen so close to home in one of what I feel is the most peaceful places in the whole world...
But, secondly... Me and my father both feel like it was wrong for the police to keep us in the dark in regard to what happened.
There's potentially a murderer or multiple murderers in the neighborhood who just killed someone with a gun and the police won't even tell us what's going on???
Trying to see their point of view we figured maybe they didn't want to somehow alert anyone who could have helped the "criminal(s)" escape, but... It seems like there would be less chance of anyone escaping if the whole neighborhood is alerted and on the lookout!
And furthermore, it just seems really sketchy that there could be such a threat and that they totally keep us in the dark about it!
I dunno, to me that seems like they aren't really trying to protect us and it further backs up the idea that the police are not here to protect us which has been challenged in court all the way up to the supreme court.
I already knew based on my research of the subject that the police have no obligation to protect us, though this even further just shows me that there could be a killer or multiple killers in your neighborhood who just murdered someone and the police won't even tell you that's the case while they are actively out there looking for him with multiple cars and a helicopter...
Pretty concerning and from now on if anything like that ever happens again I'm just going to assume the worst since I know the police won't be honest with us and tell us what's really going on until it's too late to do anything about it.
Furthermore... I would add that I used to think there was almost zero crime here in Sedona, though years ago when hanging out with my friend who was I'm not sure if friends is the right word... But, who was acquaintances with a certain officer he told me that there's actually a decent amount of crime in Sedona that never gets properly reported and that he claimed the local police are basically trying to minimize or even "cover up" how bad things are here as to not scare tourists away which is a major aspect of our local economy here.
I heard stories of other murders and crimes around this area that to my knowledge never made the newspaper or local news and which I definitely never knew about... I imagine that is somewhat common elsewhere especially in heavy tourist areas, though... It once again makes me feel a bit uneasy about what's going on.
Another example is how a couple years ago someone died right up dry creek by where I go hiking all the time and we saw them pull a body out, but... Never saw any news story on that and I checked the obituaries for a few weeks and never found anything about it and still don't know what happened there or how they died.
I did find an article about the shooting from a few days ago which I will share below, but there's not much additional information there... Hopefully we learn more in time.
It's a dangerous world out there, even in some of the places that seem the most peaceful!
