Once you crossed the metal gate we had to go up a few steps and arrived at terrace overlooking the city with very modern black and white outdoor furniture & "greyge" umbrellas. The contrast between the modern furniture and the neo classical architecture of the building was stunningly beautiful and we were already dreaming of a glass of wine with some cheese on this outdoor patio the next day. Passed 8PM on a week night it was completely empty and already closed for the night!
The monument was inaugurated on July 24, 1897, seven years after the fateful event. It was made for the 25 firefighters who were buried after the explosion, it is of singular beauty, made of marble. The monument is surrounded by cast iron walls and chains, it is a singular and exquisite work in iron and marble.
Historically, it is known that the original church was destroyed in the earthquake of 1812, later a new temple was rebuilt around 1841, with all the characteristics of colonial architecture, which also collapsed due to the rains. It was not until 1930 that the construction of the new church was completed, which as you can see is inspired by the neo-gothic style. I particularly love this architectural style,.
