Not that long ago I had the opportunity to color grade my first short film. This film is called Fear and it was written and directed by a friend of mine. He was telling me about the project and the story and everything and I asked him who was going to color grade it? He looked a little puzzled before responding I don't know I hadn't thought about it. Since I want to work more in the color grading world and need more work under my belt I offered to do it. Overall it was a great experience and I learned a ton.

The Idea was for when the actress is younger to have a bit of a warmer and more Red/Yellow look and once she gets older to have it be more cold and blue.

Overall I'm happy with how it turned out and so is my friend. One of the hardest parts I have found in color grading apart from getting skin tones correct and consistent which is really really difficult is coming up with the look when the client has no clue what they want. All he told me is he wanted it to look "cinematic" and have a film look. I looked at a ton of reference images and found a few that I thought would work best for the mood and story and then send him a few examples to choose from.

Would love to know what everyone thinks and feel free to follow me on IG erikwerlin@erikwerlin for more!
