Chapter One
Hello my name is Rudlin. I live in Avalon, a country in the east. I am a mechanic. I like to fix and make cars and motorcycles. My friend Ector does not like machines, and he reads all the time. Although we don’t always agree we’re still good friends.
One day, as I was working on a car, Ector ran up.
“Rudlin! Rudlin!” he yelled.
“What is it?” I asked.
“There are rumors that Denaria is going to declare war on us.”
“Really?” I asked. “I though that they were our allies.”
“I know that is what I thought!” He said seriously. I guess time will tell if this is true.
“So what are we doing today?” He asked.
“Well, we could make some more swords.” I suggested. Making and modifying swords is one of are favorite things to do.
“Sure, let’s do it.” He said.
There is a good metal and part market down the road. I decided to go there. As I looked for a good sword blade, I thought about what we would do with it. Then I saw a perfect sword blade, but it was over the price that I wanted. I went to see if I could find one that was cheaper. I found another one but it was too small. I called Ector to ask him which one to buy. He said we should buy the bigger, nicer one. So I bought it and went back.
When I got back to my house, we started to make the sword. First thing we needed to do was the handle.
“What should we make it out of?” Ector asked.
“I think we should make it out of wood and wrap leather around it,” I said. “And make the hand guard out of metal.”
“That sounds great,” He said.
Then we started to make the handle and hand guard. After we finished those, we started to weld them together. When we finally finished, the sword looked great. It had a big and strong blade. It also had a feature that when you flipped a switch it made it longer or shorter.
“Whose should it be?” Ector asked.
I said, “You decide.”
“Hmm…I think you should have it.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yep,” He said. “You’re better at using swords anyway.”
I picked it up and put it on my back (I have a magnet sword harness on my back).The sword is so cool.
As me and Ector walked down to the square to get something to eat, we ran into one of our friends, Averna. She is my age and she is smart.
“Where are you guys going?” Averna asked.
I said, “Down to the square to get something to eat,”
She asked, “Can I come with you?”
“Sure,” I said.
Ector said, “Come on, let’s go and eat something.”
“OK let’s go,” She said. “Cool sword Rudlin.”
“Thanks,” I said. “Ector and I made it.”
When we got to the square Averna asked where we would eat.
“Why don’t we eat at Jack’s meat restaurant?” I suggested.
“That sounds good,” They said.
We walked in and sat down at a table; a waiter walked over and gave us each a menu.
“What are you guys getting?” I asked.
“I’m getting the fried chicken breast.” Ector said.
“And I’m getting the meat and chicken combo.” Averna said.
“Well I’m getting the steak with potatoes.” I said. Then we told the waiter what we wanted to eat.
After we finished and left the restaurant, I said I should probably head home. They also went to their houses. I went back to my house and started to work on the car that I was working on earlier. As I worked, I listened to the radio.
“Breaking news!” the radio announced, “Denaria has declared war on Avalon!”
“What?!” I exclaimed. So it’s true Denaria did declare war on us. Well I should go and tell all of my friends.
When I told Ector he asked, “Should we enlist in the army?”
“Yes I think it is a great idea,” I said.
“I think we should ask Cloud what he is doing,” He said.
“OK let’s ask him,” I said. Cloud is one of my other friends. We got to Cloud’s house and knocked on the door. We knocked again and again and again. “He must not be home today,” Ector said.
“Maybe he already joined the army,” I suggested.
“So let’s join the army,” He said.
“OK come on. Let’s go.” I said. So we left to go join the army and stop Denaria.
