Telecommunications are defined as the remote transmission of information with electronic and computer-based means. This term has a broader meaning than its official equivalent meaning "electronic communication". They are thus distinguished from the post office which transmits information or objects in physical form. In the early days of modern telecommunications, inventors such as Antonio Meucci, Alexander Graham Bell and Guglielmo Marconi developed communication devices such as the telegraph, telephone or radio. These have revolutionized traditional means such as pavilions or the Chappe Optical Telegraph. At present, telecommunications is generally concerned with the use of electronic equipment associated with analogue or digital networks such as landline or mobile telephone, radio, television or computer. These are also an important part of the economy and are subject to global regulation.
