Upata is a city in the south of Venezuela, specifically in the state of Bolivar, it is a city of contrasts, jungle, full of legends and above all its inhabitants are mostly aborigines who preserve their traditions.

I wanted to paint it in one of my works, my pictorial work portrays the landscape, but not a common landscape, I see and interpret the places in my own way, they are landscapes beyond imagination, they are unreal, but they exist, it is contradictory but it is true.

In this work I painted the deep Orinoco River, I represented it with grays and blues, reflecting the afternoon sky, a yellow and a green stripe, the first one means the land attacked by mining and the other is the deep jungle, there are its giant trees and its fauna represented in birds that fly as if surprised.

There are also small boats sailing the wide river and people that look like small dots, in the upper right part there is a dark red shape, it represents the dying sun.

In Upata a great amount of gold is extracted, I wanted to represent it in a vague golden box and small red dots that portray the miners at work.

I was in that city for a few days, there I saw poverty and wealth, I saw gold and ambition, truth and legends, but above all I saw good people.

I remember the afternoons very much, they are very silent, sometimes you can only hear the birds singing and the sound of the rivers that go to join the giant Orinoco.

To achieve this work, I started drawing with graphite pencil, then I used water paints, acrylic, oil and protected the final work with a layer of resin, all this on canvas, the technique is mixed.

This is how I painted a city of my country Venezuela and I have painted many others, little by little I will show them to you.
