In August of 1999 a total solar eclipse was visible from Cornwall and parts of Devon. I have family in Plymouth, which was in the zone of totality, and so I travelled to visit them for the occassion. It was all in all an amazing experience.

When I got back to Norwich, where I lived at the time, I decided to paint this commemorative painting featuring the god Set. This is actually mixed media. The central figure, the eclipse and the purple background were done in oil pastels. The surrounding area is black acrylic paint with gold enemal paint sigils.

A magician friend of mine had been writing to me about this god and had made the pun 'Set things straight', because they had some issues to sort out with a family member. I took the pun and applied it to the eclipse, as for the eclipse to happen, the Earth, Moon and Sun have to align in a perfectly straight line.

Little did I know at the time, but this painting would, years later, would play a role in the love magic that brought dana-varahi@dana-varahi and I together.
