Sonic Symbols is an open-ended series of animated shorts inspired by my fascination with sacred symbols, alchemy, and sound.
This particular piece is inspired by the Triangle. The triangle has been a representation of strength, femininity, masculinity, and magic for thousands of years. Practitioners of magic have used this symbol for evoking spirits/energy. I'm not only a fan of the aesthetics of the geometry, I also enjoy experimenting with triangle wave-forms when I compose music on my modular synthesizer. Triangles also represent earth, water, air, fire, as seen in the logo below.
The animation was made with a combination of Cinema 4D, After Effects and Final Cut. The music was composed while watching the animation. I used a modular synthesizer, sampler and drum machine to create a sonic interpretation of the shapes, motion and color in the animation.
