I agree with you that socialism does as you say.
Socialusts want to use gov't force to attain power, then, in some distant future never now, the state will fade away as obsolete.

When rich people spend money, they spend it on things that will bring them more money in the future, art, high value cars, gold, etc, but poor people spend their money mostly on shelter, food, and escapist entertainment that the rich people rent/sell them.

The thing the speaker really fails to call into account is that there are more shoes now.
And they are most likely cheaper than they were before.
