Today I want to share a design I made for my college hoodie. Some background of my college. I study at the National Institute of Advanced Manufacturing and Technology, Ranchi. My college has only 4 branches. Earlier there were only 2. We work in the manufacturing sector. like Iron and steel plants, forging, casting and foundry sectors.
While Designing the hoodie I wanted to keep an essence of our sector. so This is what I came up with.
This is supposed to be printed at the back of the hoodie. Last year this was the hoodie design.
Now the process and how I came to this.
First I made some designs on paper after looking for logo designs for the manufacturing industry and Industry 4.0 on Google for inspiration. Most of the design had gears and cogs of course and for Industry 4.0 there were logos representing automation and data exchange in technology and processes within the manufacturing industry.
First I picked 2 elements and put them together gear and the chemical bond type structure. Then made some tweaks to the gear to give it a more realistic look and finally added an automated machine with a wifi logo to represent IOT (Internet of Things). I tried finding free fonts but liked none of them except the one using cogs inside letters to create negative space.
Here is how I got this into the digital medium.
To make the gear I made 2 ovals and placed them like this to give them 3D look then to make the tooth I used pen tool to make it.
Then gave a little fillet to all the tooth.
Connected the circles using the line tool and then made the strokes thicker
Downloaded 2 vectors of cogs and used them to make those negative spaces.
Same with Ranchi. and this was the final result
This is not yet finalised but not much change will happen in this, can't wait to see it on my college hoodie :)
