The United States pledged on Sunday a "massive military response" to North Korea's threats to US territory or its allies, insisting on the unity of the international community to demand the denuclearization of the peninsula, a trial conducted by the North Korean dictatorship. "We have many military options and the president wanted to be informed about each one," US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a very brief speech from the White House after a meeting with Donald Trump.
"We have made it clear that we have the capacity to defend ourselves and defend our allies, South Korea and Japan," he added, referring to a "flawless" commitment to these countries. "Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam, or its allies, will be the subject of a massive military response," he warned General Joe Dunford, head of state -major inter-armed US, standing by his side.
Mr. Mattis said the United States was not seeking "total annihilation" of North Korea. But he called on his leader, Kim Jong-un, to hear the message from the UN Security Council, which "unanimously agreed on the threat posed by North Korea." The Security Council is scheduled to meet urgently on Monday at 10 am.
