Este sería mi tercer perro y aunque a veces pienso que es una irresponsabilidad, estoy haciendo todo lo posible por mantener a mis peludos saludables y a gusto, porque no puedo evitar pensar que en otro hogar no los van a cuidar bien.
I'm stopping by again after a long time to tell you about the arrival of a new member to my human/dog family.
This would be my third dog and although sometimes I think it is irresponsible I am doing my best to keep my furry ones healthy and comfortable, because I can't help thinking that in another home they will not be well cared for.
El día de hoy les voy a hablar sobre Mike nuestro nuevo cachorro y como llego a nuestras vidas.
Anteriormente les había hablado sobre Dorothea, que es una perrita callejera a la que alimentamos una vez y ya no pudimos sacarla de la casa, porque por alguna razón se encariñó muchísimo con nosotros y siempre buscaba la forma de quedarse.
Resulta que Dorothea hace 5 meses aproximadamente entró en celo y fue inevitable que algún perro de la calle la montara porque aunque hicimos todo lo posible por evitarlo, Dorothea encontraba las mil maneras de escaparse e incluso una vez los perros encontraron un lugar por donde meterse a la casa. Fueron días super estresantes, los perros callejeros estuvieron acosando nuestra casa, Dorothea no quería hacer caso, yo estaba frustrada y agotada y aunque logramos resguardarla en otra casa ya era demasiado tarde.
Today I am going to tell you about Mike our new puppy and how he came into our lives.Previously I had told you about Dorothea, who is a stray dog that we fed once and we could not take her out of the house, because for some reason she got very attached to us and was always looking for a way to stay with us.
It turns out that about 5 months ago Dorothea went into heat and it was inevitable that some dog from the street mounted her because although we did everything possible to avoid it, Dorothea found a thousand ways to escape and even once the dogs found a place to get into the house. Those were super stressful days, the stray dogs were harassing our house, Dorothea did not want to pay attention, I was frustrated and exhausted and although we managed to shelter her in another house it was already too late.
Pero resulta que no fue así, llegó el día en que Dorothea debía dar a luz y solo tuvo un cachorro, yo estaba muy confundida porque tenía entendido que los perros grandes solían tener una camada de hasta 11 perros, así que la llevé al veterinario para descartar cualquier perdida y si, Dorothea solo había engendrado a un solo cachorro. El veterinario me comentó que esto se llamaba “síndrome del cachorro unico” y aunque él nunca había visto un caso en un perro tan grande, si era posible.
She passed her heat, came back to the house and we realized that she was on tape, I was very worried and again stressed because Dorothea is a very big dog and I imagined that she would have a lot of puppies.
But it turns out that she didn't, the day came when Dorothea was due to give birth and she only had one puppy, I was very confused because I had understood that big dogs usually have a litter of up to 11 dogs, so I took her to the vet to rule out any loss and yes, Dorothea had only sired one puppy. The vet told me that this was called "single puppy syndrome" and although he had never seen a case in such a large dog, it was possible.
Pensamos en dar en adopción a este cachorro, pero ya lleva poco más de tres meses con nosotros y fue inevitable no encariñarnos profundamente con él ya que lo hemos visto crecer y desarrollarse, aunque todavía le falta mucho por crecer.
Hasta ahora parece un perrito muy sano, corre, camina, ladra, juega, le salieron sus dientitos, es bastante travieso, pero a la vez muy obediente ya que se detiene inmediatamente cuando digo “no” y viene corriendo cuando le digo “ven”.
We thought about giving this puppy up for adoption, but he has been with us for a little more than three months now and it was inevitable not to get deeply attached to him as we have seen him grow and develop, although he still has a lot of growing to do.
So far he seems to be a very healthy puppy, he runs, walks, barks, plays, his teeth came out, he is quite naughty, but at the same time very obedient as he stops immediately when I say "no" and comes running when I say "come".
Hace poco, casi entro en pánico porque se estaba tragando una media/calcetín entero y lo descubrí justo a tiempo ya que todavía tenía la punta de esta dentro de la boca y pude jalarla, quedé impactada y traumada porque aunque sé que muchos perros hacen este tipo de cosas, nunca me había tocado. Ahora estoy muy atenta y evito que Mike se acerque a la ropa sucia.
The only problem so far is that, like Ollie, he is quite anxious when it comes to eating, he gets very desperate when I am serving him, he wants to eat everyone's food and nothing seems to satisfy him even though he is chubby and heavy.Recently, I almost panicked because he was swallowing a sock whole and I discovered it just in time because he still had the tip of it inside his mouth and I was able to pull it out, I was shocked and traumatized because although I know that many dogs do this kind of things, it had never touched me. Now I am very attentive and I keep Mike away from the dirty clothes.
La verdad ha sido hermoso ser parte de todo este proceso, pero definitivamente espero que sea el último ya que voy a buscar la forma de esterilizar a Dorothea y ser muy cuidadosa con el celo de Ollie, para luego esterilizarla también.
No les voy a mentir ser madre perruna de tres no está fácil, es bastante agotador, pero ellos lo valen y voy a tratar de que tengan la mejor calidad de vida posible.
The truth is that it has been beautiful to be part of this whole process, but I definitely hope it will be the last one since I am going to find a way to spay Dorothea and be very careful with Ollie's heat, and then spay her as well.
I'm not going to lie to you, being a dog mom of three is not easy, it's quite exhausting, but they are worth it and I will try to give them the best quality of life possible.
