I have been one familiar with the night.

I have exited in rain—and back in rain.

I have outwalked the uttermost city light.

I have looked down the saddest city path.

I have gone by the guard on his beat

What's more, dropped my eyes, unwilling to clarify.

I have stopped and halted the sound of feet

At the point when far away an interfered with cry

Came over houses from another road,

Be that as it may, not to get back to me or say farewell;

Further still at an unearthly stature,

One illuminating presence clock against the sky

Announced the time was neither wrong nor right.

I have been one familiar with the night.
