Licking the Wounds

Next day the Librarian went to the school. Crazy brainwashed killers or not, his mother would kill him for missing school. During the launch pause, he sat by himself like always and read his book while eating. He was trying to act like nothing happened, even though he still had bruises on his neck from yesterday.

" You look like Fred Jones with that thing on your neck," said a female voice. He turned to the source of the voice. It was Wendy Williams, the  daughter of the mayor.

" Wendy. Since when did you become interested in a wallflower like me?"

" What happened to your voice?"

He untied the ascot, which he was using to cover his neck and showed her the bruises.

" Dear God! How did that happen?" she asked with a sign of worry in her voice. He smiled at her.

" Nothing, just a small conflict with a robber. He was pretty pissed since I didn't have any money. But that's not surprising since I spend all my money on books," he answered and tried to play the whole thing as a joke. Wendy sat next to him on the bench and gently touched his neck.

" Are you really sure that you are OK? Shouldn't you rest instead?"

He shrugged his arms. " A slight itching in the neck isn't a  good enough excuse to miss school.  Plus I would rather spend a time in school with this thing on my neck," he points at the ascot "...than suffer the wrath of my mother."

He looked into her eyes. Her face showed signs of worry about his wellbeing.  He felt like, he should change the topic of the conversation.

" Anyway what did you want to talk about, before my small wound interrupted you," he asked.

" Oh right! I almost forgot! I wanted to ask you something about that group of kids, which disappeared."

" You are asking as the daughter of the mayor or as Wendy Williams?"

" What do you mean by that?"

" I like my peace and solitude. After I give you my answer, the first thing you are going to do after school, is to run into your dad's office and be all like..." he said the next part with a bad impersonation of a girl's voice, " Daddy, daddy! This guy, with whom I go to school with, knows something."

She punched him in the gut. However he was a veteran of many street fights and beacuse of that he didn't even flinch. He continued like nothing happened.

" Sadly I don't have any interesting information. The last time I saw them was in the library. They were looking for something to read."  He was obviously lying, but Wendy didn't notice that. It is going to take a long time, before the image of John choking him to dead vanishes from his memory. Wendy stood up.

" Well thanks anyway," she said and walked away. However before walking away completely, she turned back at him and said: " You should really rest. It's not a good idea to take such serious wounds lightly, Angry."

A tall man walked into a room with a petite girl sitting in an armchair.

" Did you find?" she asked with an unnaturally deep voice. The man grunted no.

" Pitty," she said, while looking at a book in her left hand.

" We could use some reinforcements."
