"I promise myself that I will enjoy every minute of the day that is given me to live." - Thich Nhat Hanh
Be sensible, stay safe and take the Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) at home and or Polymerase Chain Reaction in a testing clinic if you have symptoms of covid or if you are a close contact, are the recommendations of the Australian Health and government officials.
All of society including my hubby and I understand, accept and support the decision to open the borders. We had to open up for the sake of the country's economy, for jobs, for mental health reasons, for everyone's emotional and psychological health etc. We all need to get on with a good quality of life as does the the rest of the world at these times. We have all had it tough.
But nonetheless I have to say that it was a surprise if not a little bit of a shock when my hubby tested covid positive with a RAT on Thursday morning this week. Where did he pick it up? We were required to do a RAT test before going to the wedding and on Sunday before going to the Hotel and the wedding we know that Ben did not have the covid virus. Maybe he caught it on Monday when the tree loppers came to chop down our palm trees? Or perhaps he caught it at Dan Murphy's, the big wine/beer/spirit outlet? Or perhaps Ben did catch it at the wedding?
It was all supposition of course as we do not know exactly where and really it does not matter as he has covid regardless. It was bound to happen. He is unwell with a razor sore throat, heavy head cold and fevers. We are grateful that no complications have set in and thankful he is triple vaccinated.
Now, I do not have covid, I tested negative on Thursday morning and again this morning. While I am more than relieved to be negative we are at the same time non-plussed. I know that this is not unusual with couples and really it is just as well because I can look after Ben. Where we normally share out jobs I am now the chief cook, cleaner, bottle washer and nurse while Ben rests in his specially organised part of the house. This whole situation is a reminder to continue living each minute of my life, it is good to reflect.
Working extra harder, to take up the gauntlet is the least I can do right now, being able to make Ben comfortable with cups of tea, the serving of homemake cake and scones, and making myself available to sit nearby to chat and connect.
Ben has to isolate at home for 7 days so hopefully on Wednesday or Thursday perhaps he will be better and he will test negative on the RAT in time for the Easter weekend. Anyway according to Australian rules I am a close contact and cannot leave the house for a week either. I will also have to do another RAT, my third one.
I have not had a lot of time to connect with Hive to write posts or visit the posts of my many friends to upvote and comment on. My sincere apologies.
While I am sitting in a quiet place writing this post I can't help but contemplate on the importance of what matters to me and how easy it is to take someone like my Ben for granted. How important it is to pause, feel gratitude for the special loves in my life and renew my promise not to take any one of them for granted.
We all need to get the balance right between action and reflection. With so many distractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock.-
