Hi all,
How are you guys doing? Hope you had a nice weekend?
I studied quite a bit on the Friday and Sunday. But on Saturday I went out. First, to spend some quality time with my nephews of 7 and 8, whom I had neglected for a long time. We had breakfast together and afterwards we played monopoly, read together and watched a short movie.
In the evening I went to watch a Ramlila with my sister. Even though I am almost 30 and Ramlila is an annual event in Suriname, it was my first time watching it. My parents never brought me as a child and in fact afterward I forgot it existed. But recently I saw an announcement about it on social media and thought, why not?
So, for the people who don't know what Ramlila is. Ramlila is a play about the story of Ram from the Ramayan, an epic from India. I've seen the movie Ramayan before; it's based on the book. But this was the first time that I saw the play. And I enjoyed it. Because the story is long, the play lasts for 5 days (3 hours each day). Saturday was the last day; so I couldn't see the whole story though.
I took some pictures of the play.
I must add that the play was clear and fun for someone who knows the Ramayan. Someone who does not know it (or who does not understand Hindi), the play was impossible to follow.
In my opinion, the Ramlila should be performed in different languages, especially in Suriname where there are so many different cultures. Moreover, many Surinamese youth of Hindustani descent do not know Hindi either. It is a pity that they cannot learn from the Ramlila.
But that was it for today.
I have been in a meeting all morning to complete a group work. I have to write a program in Matlab for the University along with 2 other classmates and it is quite a tricky thing. So tomorrow we'll be at it again. For now, I have to attend another lecture of Graph Theory.
Have a nice and also productive Monday all of you!
Thank you for reading and supporting me. 💙
