Yesterday I finally did something I never dared before!
I ate at a restaurant by myself.
That may seem a little crazy. But in Suriname it is actually very taboo to eat in a restaurant by yourself. People are used to eat out with friends or family. You never see anyone on his or her own. Yet it is something I always wanted to do. Especially if you don't have a partner or children. Why sit around waiting for someone to make some time free to go out with you?
So yesterday I decided to have breakfast at my favorite restaurant. An impulsive decision, because actually I've always been afraid of the looks I might get.
But the restaurant was pretty empty.
For starters, the waitress who received me at the door was already looking at me funny when I said I want a table for one. Of course they didn't have a table for one, so I was assigned a table for two.
The whole time I was sitting there (at least an hour and a half because I ate and afterwards I was on Facebook for a while and I listened to some music as well), all the waitresses were looking at me. I saw the questioning looks, the mocking looks and the pitiful looks.
But to be honest; I had an amazing time!
I enjoyed my food and actually I was glad that I had overcome the fear of eating by myself.
Didn't I read somewhere that if you are able to eat by yourself in a restaurant, you are actually able to do all sorts of things by yourself?
I know that over the past 2 years I have changed a lot. But now I really notice myself that I am a totally different person. And I don't mind that. I'm looking forward to the new experiences I have yet to go through. ❤️
