Coal has been used as a fuel for ages, but nowadays there is a lot of debate as to whether or not this fuel is a good choice for a number of reasons ranging from safety concerns about how it is mined to the pollution that it creates in the environment. While there are efforts being made in Europe to limit CO2 emissions, China shows more concern about its air quality, and the U.S. switches over to shale gas, it is still likely that coal will remain relatively stable in years to come.
Even though there is so much talk about going green and looking out for the wellbeing of our planet, the reality of the situation is that the coal industry, just like many other industries, is established and there is demand for what it produces.
When it comes to electricity production, coal's share in the process is 94% in Poland, 93% in South Africa, 78% in India, 77% in Australia, and 70% in China. These countries, and many others, too, do not process their chemical waste and this waste ends up being dumped.
Angenium understands that dumping waste is not and should not be the only option.
