When we think about mining for gold, images of river panning or rock exploration come to mind. This has traditionally been how the precious metal has been discovered. But today’s world has already seen the depletion of so many natural resources that people are getting more tactical in how to get their hands on what is in demand. One way to do this is to go through what we are throwing away. Industrial waste is filled with treasures that for years we didn’t even think to explore. But the reality of today’s reduce-recycle-reuse mentality means that it is logical and efficient to do just that.
We are throwing away all sorts of things like computers and smartphones that have gold inside of them. This gold can be extracted and given a second life if only mechanisms are working to make that happen.
