👳♀Recuerdos En Color Sepia👵
👳♀Sepia Memories👴
Hello my boys, I hope you are well. Photographs are the best way to immortalize moments. Seeing them allows us to relive each of those moments. Birthdays, baptisms, weddings, parties, family and friends outings are captured by those lenses and then captured on paper.
In every house there is an album or a box where these small or large sheets of paper are jealously guarded as treasures because some of those who appear there were ahead of us on the way and it is the way we have to keep them present.
On one occasion we were gathered at Uncle Raul's house. My mother's older brother and while they were talking they began to remember moments of my mother's childhood. She is the youngest of the siblings. My grandmother died when my mom was very young, she was only 8 years old at the time.
He took out the album and there we saw pictures of grandma and her sister, of other uncles and aunts, of him and even one of my mom when she was a teenager. They laughed a lot.
Then he took out a small wooden box that was also full of photos, but one in particular caught both of our attention. It was taken in 1958 during the Procession of the Nazarene during Holy Week in the city of Asuncion, Nueva Esparta state, Venezuela.
In that picture my mother, my uncle Victor and my grandmother appear, I tell you that according to what uncle Raul told us my mother was very angry because the grandmother Maria Beltran was holding her little brother and not her.
When they took it out, they realized that it was very deteriorated and in sepia color. I guess it was in black and white but it was more than 50 years old and the humidity changed its color. My uncle decided to give it to my mother, she kept it in a sheet of paper and from time to time she would take it with great affection to see my grandmother.
When my husband and I started our engagement I showed him the photo and he told me that it could be restored, we found out and it was very expensive and they did not do it here in Cumaná. Felix, my husband decided that he would try to restore it himself and got to work. He scanned the photo and once it was digitized he used an editing program (Photoshop) to restore it. It took him several days but he did it. He saved the portrait in his phone and we went to a photo store, we chose the letter size.
With the photo already printed we went to a glass shop to have it framed and give it to my mom for Mother's Day. The frame we chose was golden. It was very delicate and beautiful.
I wrapped with many layers of paper and finally a delicate paper of hearts this picture. I remember that when Mother's Day came, my mom's face was a mixture of emotion and tenora and even a tear was assumed there. She hugged me and immediately sent me to put a nail on the wall to hang it in the living room and it has been there ever since.
My children every time we visit their grandmother, they ask her, "Grandma, why are you so brave in that picture? and she laughs and tells the story".
A few years later, on Uncle Victor's 60th birthday, she asked me to have the photo printed again and to frame it but this time in silver. When she uncovered the box where we had kept it she was moved to tears and told us it was one of the best gifts she had received that day. He also hung it on the wall of his house to display it with pride.
Nowadays photos are no longer kept in albums or boxes but on a cell phone or displayed on social media. But they are still the way to remember those moments.
Even at my mom's house, boxes and one or two photo albums from my and my brother's childhood are kept. Sitting down to see what we have changed over the years we do not laugh , those if they are in color and of different sizes.
Although I tell you that sometimes we do not have a camera or a cell phone at hand, but the photos are taken with our eyes and we keep them in the album of our heart.
God bless you always and I hope you also have boxes full of memories in sepia color,
Many Kisses
