Hello dear friends,

On our trips to Bad Mergentheim we always pass the little town of Lauda on the Tauber River, which lies between Bad Mergentheim and Tauberbischofsheim. I took the opportunity to show my son what I remember most about Lauda - apart from the memories of a cool village disco.

Hallo liebe Freunde,

auf unseren Trips nach Bad Mergentheim passieren wir auch stets das Städtchen Lauda an der Tauber, das zwischen Bad Mergentheim und Tauberbischofsheim liegt. Ich habe die Gelegenheit wahgenommen und meinem Sohn das zu zeigen, was mir an Lauda - neben der Erinnerungen an eine coole Dorfdisse - am meisten im Gedächtnis geblieben ist.

This steam locomotive from the manufacturer Schwarzkopf Berlin from 1942 and the tender manufacturer Wiener Lokfabrik Floridsdorf stands in the middle of a park-like area in Lauda. With 1625 HP, the locomotive reached a top speed of 80 km/h and was finally taken out of service in 1977 after a total mileage of over 1.5 million km..

Diese Dampflok des Herstellers Schwarzkopf Berlin aus dem Jahre 1942 und dem Tenderhersteller Wiener Lokfabrik Floridsdorf steht nämlich mitten in einem parkähnlichen Areal in Lauda. Die Lok kam bei 1625 PS auf eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 80 km/h und wurde nach über 1,5 Millionen km Gesamtlaufleistung schließlich im Jahre 1977 aus der Verkehr genommen.

By the way, this "steel monster monument" seems to be a private initiative of the Dampflokfreunde (=steam locomotive friends) Lauda e.V., whose commitment I can only praise. Mockers would perhaps say that the lame economic locomotive Germany is symbolically very well represented here? ;-)

Dieses imposante "Stahlmonster Denkmal" scheint übrigens eine private Initiative der Dampflokfreunde Lauda e.V. zu sein. Sehr löbliche Aktion, würde ich sagen. Spötter würde vielleicht sagen, daß hier die ins stocken geratene Wirtschaftslokomotive Deutschland sinnbildlich sehr gut getroffen sei? ;-)

Last year we had rather cool temperatures for quite a long time, so I didn't really feel like training on the bike. Fortunately, this year we've already had many days with 10 degrees and more in February, so my training backlog shouldn't be that big. However, the 10-year-old battery on my eBike is now extremely weak, so I'm riding under my own power a lot again. I will soon have to buy a new bike. That's why I've been riding tours in the surrounding area recently. There are plenty of beautiful motifs here, such as the view from the Bavarian Kreuzwertheim to Wertheim.

Letztes Jahr hatten wir bei uns ja ziemliche lange eher kühle Temperaturen, so daß ich wenig Lust hatte, Fahrrad zu fahren. Zum Glück haben wir dieses Jahr im Februar schon viele Tage mit 10 Grad und mehr gehabt, so daß mein Trainingsrückstand nicht so groß sein sollte. Allerdings schwächelt der 10 Jahre alte Akku meines eBikes mitterweile extrem, so daß ich sehr viel wieder aus eigener Kraft fahre. Ich fürchte, da muß bald ein neuer Drahtesel her. Daher bin ich in letzter Zeit auch eher Touren im Umkreis gefahren. Schöne Motive gibt es hier ja genug, wie z.B. dnr Blick von Kreuzwertheim nach Wertheim.
