Hello dear friends,

It's the beginning of October and the year is clearly entering the home straight here in Tauberfranken. Just as the Tauber does in Wertheim after flowing 130 km through southern Germany. On the picturesque banks of the Tauber - I have often photographed it for you - the Tauber flows into the Main in the shadow of Wertheim Castle.

Hallo liebe Freunde,

es ist Anfang Oktober und das Jahr biegt bei uns in Tauberfranken unübersehbar auf die Zielgerade ein. Genau so wie es die Tauber in Wertheim macht, nachdem sie etwas 130 km durch Süddeutschland geflossen ist. Am malerischen Tauberufer - ich habe es schon oft für Euch fotografiert - mündet die Tauber im Schatten der Wertheimer Burg in den Main.

The beginning of October is also the time for the Wertheim Michaelmas Fair. At the Wertheim fair, we usually have the last warm days of the year when you can still enjoy the days outside in a T-shirt.

Anfang Oktober ist auch die Zeit für die Wertheimer Michaelismesse. Auf der Wertheimer Kirmes haben wir meist die letzten warmen Tage des Jahres an dem man tagsüber noch im T-Shirt draußen verweilen kann.

The second weekend of the funfair is only bearable in winter clothes in the evening. Now summer is finally over and the more unpleasant half of the year begins for me. I clearly prefer the warmth to the cold temperatures.

Das zweite Wochenende der Kirmes ist abends nur noch mit Winterklamotten zu ertragen. Nun ist der Sommer endgültig vorbei und für mich beginnt die unangenehmere Hälfte des Jahres. Ich ziehe ganz klar die Wärme den kalten Temperaturen vor.

After a long break, this year there is once again a Ferris wheel at the Wertheim funfair. And a beautiful one at that. The colors white and purple dominate. I also took a ride. The groaning of the steel during the ride evokes Titanic associations for me. I think I'm just too old and brooding for that ;-) But the view from the Ferris wheel is really stunning.

Nach langer Pause gibt es dieses Jahr auch mal wieder ein Riesenrad auf der Wertheimer Kirmes. Und ein schönes noch dazu. Die Farben weiß und lila dominieren. Ich habe auch eine Fahr gewagt. Das Ächzen des Stahls während der Fahrt erweckt bei mir Titanic Assoziationen. Ich glaube, ich bin einfach zu alt und grüblerisch für sowas. ;-) Aber die Aussicht vom Riesenrad ist echt überwältigend.

Not far from the funfair, there is this ford in the Tauber at the large Tauber playground. Here you can play, swim, build dams or simply enjoy the beautiful place.

Unweit der Kirmes gibt es am großen Tauberspielplatz diese Furt in der Tauber. Hier kann man spielen, baden, Dämme bauen oder einfach nur den schönen Ort genießen.

In my opinion, the greenish color of the water is characteristic of the lower section of the Tauber river.

Die grünliche Färbung des Wassers ist für den unteren Abschnitt der Tauber meiner Meinung nach charakteristisch.

As I write these lines, we still have three days until the big fireworks display that traditionally ends the funfair. I may be repeating myself, but this is where I realize with a big bang that another year is as good as over. Hopefully we'll have a golden fall. I'll try to keep myself at a happy level for as long as possible by hunting for mushrooms in the great outdoors. ;-)

Wenn ich diese Zeilen schreibe, haben wir noch drei Tage bis zum großen Feuerwerk, das die Kirmes traditionell beschließt. Ich wiederhole mich zwar, aber hier wird mir nochmal mit einem großen Knall bewußt, daß wieder mal ein Jahr so gut wie rum ist. Hoffentlich bekommen wir einen goldenen Herbst. Ich werde versuchen, mich mit Pilze suchen in der freien Natur so lange wie möglich auf einem fröhlichen Level zu halten. ;-)
