I want to believe that every human being is incomplete without that special person. A person so unique we choose to surrender the key that opens our heart, the other half of our hearts without which we wouldn’t be whole, a lover who completes the missing puzzle of our hearts.
Love is a popular subject today. We now live in an age where we hear so much about it yet see so little of it in action. It is obvious that the word “love” means different things to different people. We often use the word loosely yet love is fundamental in our daily lives as well as the single most important ingredient in a successful marriage. It is therefore important for us to know what love really means.
Permit me to mention this again; people love for different reasons? Some are in love because of what they can get or what they can offer, others because their partners are controllable or presentable. Some are even in it because of family name or status. Some of us think that in loving someone feeling and emotion are all that is needed. Well, I am sorry to disappoint you; you would need more than your feelings and emotion in the affairs of the heart. Loving someone for the rest of your life is a choice. Your patience, dedication and tolerance would be tested to the limit. Every relationship will have its trying time.
To love simply means to be vulnerable. In a marriage it means it’s no longer two individuals but one entity bound together by God witnessed by men. Love is not possessive, demanding, stubborn, or dominating. Love does not insist on its own way. It is always willing to satisfy.
Relationship Klinik would like you to ponder upon these facts in other to strengthen your relationships:
The length of time you spend in courtship is not a guarantee that you know your spouse. You learn new things about each other daily but you also grow in love daily.
Focus on your spouse’s strength and discuss the weaknesses in a loving manner in other to work out solutions. Be willing to sacrifice.
Never think you can change your spouse. Be prepared to live with the problem even if he / she promise to change. Human beings are not robots, change don’t come that easy.
Never stop working on your relationship. The grass is not greener on the other side as you think. Don’t compare your home or spouse to someone else. Every couple go through difficult time.
Communication is important. Spend time with your spouse and please note that nothing is too small or too big to open up about. Talk about just everything and anything.
Be each other’s friend. Being friends above all will help you walk in love. Don’t stop courting simply because you are now married. Keep playing the game to keep the fire of your love burning.
Marriages are not made in heaven. If it's working for 'those' couple it's because they know how to bring heaven down into their relationships. Heaven is not on earth. You can only bring the heavenly atmosphere down if you knew the secret. Heaven is a place of devotion, a citadel of unequalled admiration and love. Heaven is the kingdom of God. The fundamental truth is this; God is love. Have you ever heard that statement before? Do you really understand it? Well, this is my understanding. I think if we don’t know and love God we won’t know how to love or express love to others. The type of love Relationship Klinik is talking about is selfless love, love that does not seek its own, love that can forgive anything and everything even when it hurts. That is the type of love that was referred to in 1 Corinthians 13: 13-14.
Have you been wounded by love? Have you failed in love? Has death separated you from a loved one? Are you afraid to love or be loved? Start by loving God with all your heart. Loving Him will help you to detoxify your heart and move on. Everyone deserved to love and be loved.
I hear people say they fall in or out of love. You don't fall in love, you walk in love. You don't stay in love, you grow in love. In the affairs of love you can't afford to fall because you may rise up with injuries. Staying in love is dangerous. No one stays on the same spot for life. Staying is stagnation. You have to grow in love. Growth is vibrancy. Growth is strength. Growth is stability.
Finally, take a look at your spouse or intended partner. Now fast forward to 50 years. What can you see? I will leave that to your imaginations. The big question is “Will you still be happy with your choice?” Love transcends physical appearance. Love holds fast to people it loves. It perseveres. It never gives up on anyone. Love won’t stop loving, even in the face of rejection. Love takes action to shake up an intolerable situation. Love looks beyond the present to the hope of what might be in the future. Real love knows no limit. It is a matter of will rather than feeling. Love is affair of the heart and you are merely half a heart if you haven’t found love. And if you have found your other half remember to “walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God”. (Eph. 5:2).
