Gone are the days when women stayed at the background &keep the house;married 4procreation purpose;take care of their children etc.,&were of less significance in the patriarchal society.Gone are the days when women education was of no use in the society rather to learn trade so as to become helpmate to men.Since they will be married out, therefore, their education was of no use.Gone are the days when women had no right to acquire properties and even if they must acquire, they had to use their parent or husband's name to do so.This condition was to limit women from being independent but to remain under patriarchal dominance.Gone are the days when our women were not given privilege in politics and governance simply because they were seen as those who could not deliver nor have capability to lead. Gone are the days when women were only seen but not heard.
Nowdays, women still do their domestic obligation which is clearly define:clean, cook, bear children,& be a man's helpmate but in addition, they are seen, heard and even felt. These days many women are making impacts in their different fields of endeavor. Many have broken the fetters of patriarchy, dare the challenges &made tremendous strides in their career.
This is the background of today's feature story on the person of Dr. (Mrs.)Akon Etim Eyakenyi.A person i've described as"A GOLDEN EAGLE ON THE IROKO".A loving mother with a "Heart of Gold".A great leader that promotes moral excellence and dignity of womanhood.A devoted christian and a patriotic citizen of Nigeria.
Anybody familiar with the African landscape knows that the Iroko tree is the Tallest and strongest tree in the forest and that the Eagle is,of course, the king of the birds.
Its is therefore, obligatory on us to celebrate this great woman of our time who have denied self and have succeeded in climing the Iroko tree, thus, leaving indelible imprints to the growth/development of our society.
