Tropical Watercolor: A City Dyed by the Magic of the Classic Cars
Yes, we all know the Cuban capital city for being very colorful. It's also been characterized by appearing frozen in time, old and neglected. But few realize that it recently celebrated no less than 500 years of having been founded in that same area that we know today as Old Havana, where many of its buildings are still the originals.
But this time I won't talk or show architecture nor buildings. Today I want to show you another of those elements in this beautiful city that gives so much life and color to it. The classic American cars. Those that arrived newly manufactured from the United States until 1959, when everything stopped, but those cars remained until today. Probably few remember where they come from. So much, that they have become Cubans, part of our culture and heritage.
Believe it or not, I've seen photos published on the internet of these cars in other countries, both in Europe and even in the United States itself, and people see them and recognize Cuba in them, call them Cubans and how much they remind them our beautiful tropical island.
These cars have not suffered the same fate for the long passage of time. Not everyone has been able to invest in saving these beautiful cars. However, it's clear that most of them are in excellent condition, renovated and shiny as new. And so they ride around, proud of themselves. People has begun to feel it so, to love these old classics and give it the value they deserve.
This is it for this short trip through the colors of Havana and its classic cars. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I have many more to tell and show you all. Stay tunned!
