They say "when in France do as the French do". And when in the 'H' do as the swangers do. And we not talkin about dirty dancin'. Urban dictionary defines swangers as: "83 or 84 elbows chrome spoke rims that goes on a slab(car)." But definitions are always up to interpretations, and one artist by the name of Ray June is showing his interpretation of the Houston car culture that is swangin' in his latest video Swervin.
Ray June is an artist from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma who created the phrase Troopy Life. But it hasn't taken long for Ray June to prove that this is more than a phrase, it's a lifestyle. You can catch some of his Troopy Life appeal on the Troopy Lifers that support Ray June as an artist and as an entrepreneur. So let's get into Swervin:
All these Jim Carrey's talkin they don't really know me,
I don't keep no Yes men in my circle homie,
Look I'm not with the games, ain't no jokie jokie,
You might caught me in the 'H' where those swangers pokin',
From the first 4 bars it's easy to see why Ray June choose "Swervin" as his lead single. What I enjoy about this track first off is his flow. He embodies the swangers lifestyle and takes his time and creates his own cadence throughout the verses. Swervin is the 1st track off Ray June's recently released album Stay Troopy, Vol 2. Which is an 8-track sequel to the Stay Troopy series. The track highlights Ray June's ability to both rap and sing as his melodic auto-tuned voice can be heard throughout the chorus and bridge of the track.
The video to Swervin was shot by videographer Thraxx The Shooter who's artistic vision elevated the track to a new level. The video features synchronized choreography (which the pointing elbow was an impressively subtle stunt move) and shots of Ray June having fun with his friends. One of the best visuals of the video is of Ray June riding on the back of a swervin' Impala, and whats even more impressive is when the Impala is swervin in reverse surprisingly Ray June is still able to deliver a player performance. This is video is a must watch!
