The 2004 Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship with arguably the greatest back court of all time Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton. Chauncey ran the court and saw the plays developing before they even happened, while Richard out worked everyone on the court. But what truly made this duo so great was the magic they created when both were on the court. They knew their game and they played it well. Two rappers Dial Tone and Hakeem Eli'juwon are reminiscent of this duo on their track 'Get On Up'.
Dial Tone starts off the track with a smooth flow like Chauncey bringing up the ball from the back court. And like a true point guard starts setting up the play to score.
My pride I slid to the side and kept it movin'.
For the bucks,
More dollas to touch,
Tone don't want much,
Just what's he choosin,
The thing about Dial Tone's flow is that is subtle, yet deceptive for the fact that he can put these crazy puzzle of words together and make it come together into a masterpiece. Much like Chancy navigating thru traffic to get the lane and score. So with a cool delivery and spittin' nothin but truth by the time his verse ends it's undeniable that He got game.
The chorus is one of the best parts about the track. Dial Tone takes lead as he matches the beat which is itself a cool vibe for you to bop your head to. Also the chorus is catchy and simple enough to be have that replayability for any age while at the same time still being able to keep a more conscious listener engaged.
Hakeem Eli'juwon doesn't wait for the chorus to finish, he immediately goes in. Similar to how Richard Hamilton is able to move without the ball and when and at the right time was able to catch the ball of the dribble and score.
You won't my attention,
spend some money with me,
I can get you locked in with it,
If I ain't got it to get it,
Richard Hamilton out worked any opponent he faced and persevered through every play and never let up. Anyone who followed Hakeem knows that 2017 was a year he out worked his competition dropping tape after tape. He continued this work ethic to close out the year with the release of #HeavyMetal which was another solid project that Hakeem added to his catalog.
But enough of the NBA talk watch this duo for yourself and listen to the track "Get On Up" by Hakeem Eli'juwon ft. Dial Tone.
