I just had a stupid, but possibly awesome idea.
What if Huntsmen do have a formal system, but it's mostly based on something weird like Music Theory?
In the show, atleast up until the end of Volume 3, characters tend to fight in a very "Rythmic" way. Like, there's a time signature in most of those fights that you can track and that gives me the idea that Huntsmen approach combat similarly to how a drummer approaches a gig.
I got this hypothesis that Huntsmen fight under "Video-Game-Like Logic". You have light attacks, heavy attacks, blocks, dodges and parries and all that bullshit. But, when it comes to beats, you got things like Bass, High Hats, Snares, Kicks, and son.
Now replace the Bass and High hats with Strikes and dodges.
Reminds of Dark Souls and how most enemies have 4/4 time signatures in their attack patterns.
And then you got The Dancer of The Boreal Valley who use 3/4 time signatures to disorient the fuck out of players that subconsciously got used to 4/4s.
How "skilled" a Huntsman is can be possibly be attributed to how varied their time signatures are and how well they can switch between them.
I beat Dark Souls 2 with less than 10 deaths because I had a minor in Music Theory and immediately noticed how almost all the enemies in all three games fought with a 4/4 time signature and could almost immediately find weirder time signatures like 2/4s, 5/7s, 4/7s, and so on.
