Unfortunately for the time his approach was laughable, but for the benefit of the study Freyman never stopped his research, even obtaining a Nobel Prize in 1965 for his research in the field of quantum electrodynamics, inspired by his ideal of compacting the world to the tip of a pencil.
During this time enthusiasts of the subject have joined forces to continue the research, but it is recently that the significant innovations are being accelerated, before it was maintained in the theoretical field.
For this reason it is used as a reference in television and film, because it was considered as the uncertain future without form, similar to flying cars or a universal currency.

A curious topic of the innovations in nanotechnology are the priority focuses that are related to it, being Food and Health, that does not rule out that there are investigations towards other areas. These 2 areas stand out for their application in the short term, that is, the advances can be applied more quickly compared to the others.
An example of this is the projects directed towards Africa, with plans such as using nanotechnology to purify water, causing the costs associated with the distribution of drinking water in countries in need to be reduced.
A similar case is in medicine, in which they use the advances to treat certain diseases, although it is still quite limited.
Within these topics there are also other projects, such as the use of nanotechnology to clean impurities in food or verification in the state of medicines.
As mentioned, there are also long-term projects, but these are focused on the Production and Computing area, raising ideas such as nanochips that can perform the computation of an average machine.
Current situation
Thanks to the growing interest in the improvement of productivity in costs, that is to say long-term projects, currently the greatest support is being given to these investigations in the history of this science, both by governments and private companies.
Projection to the Future
Several critics consider that the best reference to determine the potential of this technology are those seen in television and cinema, because they are a reflection of human creativity. They suggest that they could do a thousand and one speculations, but it is known that innovation has no brake, implying that, if you imagined it, it will be fulfilled at some point.
