We've all experienced a battle at some point that completely drains our energy, steals our peace, and throws us off balance, yet we can't let go because we live in a world where we believe that letting go is the same as losing.
How many people are in a romantic relationship that hurts them, yet they've been trying to save it for years, or a negative friendship, but they've known that person since childhood, or they have a job that steals their peace but pays well? There are even people who keep clothes in their closets from when they were thinner, heavier, or younger, simply because they looked good back then and they long to return to that physical version they loved so much.
We've learned, or been taught, to believe that letting go of what binds us so tightly is a way of losing, that forgiving someone who hurt us is a way of confirming or telling them that what they did was right, that if we end a friendship or romantic relationship, we've wasted our time and won't start over.
Letting go doesn't mean we're weak, that our attempt wasn't worthwhile, or that we're giving up for no reason. Letting go means we've learned to choose our battles, to decide where to invest our energy, strength, and time.
Letting go isn't losing; it's choosing ourselves, it's self-care, it's releasing the weight of what binds us and steals our peace. When we decide to let go, we don't lose; we gain peace and tranquility because life always continues its course, and we must always choose to walk lightly, without attachments, without carrying relationships, jobs, or conflicts that make the path more complicated.
When we let go, we create space for new people, events, jobs, and relationships to appear in our lives. When we let go, we accept that that cycle in our lives has ended, it's over, it's closed. Letting go is accepting that that cycle fulfilled its purpose in our lives, and then we can also learn and extract the lessons that that person, that event, or that relationship was going to teach us.
Of course, like any cycle that closes, it will hurt, it will leave a void, we will have to grieve, we will experience that fear of starting again, we will feel injustice because we tried and it didn't work... Letting go is not easy, letting go hurts and it hurts a lot because we are already adapted to that rhythm or "weight" in life, to that relationship that although it doesn't work is there and "is alive", to that job and its environment, to that dream or that hope of returning to what we were.
Letting go is difficult because it confronts us with a new reality, but it's a fundamental step that allows us to experience freedom. When we let go, we choose ourselves; we tell the world, the universe, and ourselves that we are a priority, that we choose ourselves.
When we let go, we can close a chapter and move forward, because when we let go, we accept that we can no longer keep trying, that we can no longer keep draining our energy there. Letting go is choosing ourselves, loving ourselves, and prioritizing ourselves.
