Many years ago, there was a king in a village called Buma. His name was Luiza. He was a very rich man. He had a beautiful palace with many big rooms. The chairs, tables, beds and paintings were the best in the world at that time. His garden had the most-lovely flowers. Midas loved everything he had.
His wife was a very beautiful and peace-loving woman. King Midas and his wife had a very pretty daughter who was bright, cheerful and loving.
King Luiza taught he had all the things he could ever want in his life. Then, one day, Mabara, one of the Buma gods came to see him. He said, “King Luiza, I’ve come to thank you for helping my teacher, Telma. I want to give you anything you wish. What do you want most?”
The king looked around him. His palace was beautiful. His wife and daughter were the best in the whole world. So, he taught, “What else do I want?” Then, he remembered something – he didn’t have enough gold.
So, he said, “Mabara, kind god, I have everything, well, almost everything. There is still one thing I want. I wish everything I touch turned to gold.”
Mabara said, “Is that all? You have your wish. From now on, everything you touch will turn to gold.” The god went away.
King Luiza was very happy. He went and touched a chair in the room. It turned to gold. Luiza was excited. He touched a table, a cup, a painting, a statue, they all turned to gold. He was delighted. So he went round his palace touching everything he wanted. Soon, most of the things in his house were gold.
However, at dinner time, King Luiza had a problem. His stewards put the food on the table. As soon as he touched it, it turned to gold. He was unable to eat it. He knew he was in trouble. He had to be careful about what he touched. He couldn’t touch his wife or child again.
King Luizas became very unhappy. So, he prayed to Mabara to help him. The god asked him to go and bathe in a river. Luiza washed himself and the magic touch left him. But the sands of the river turned to gold.
