Luke 1:1-13
“And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years” (Luke 1:6-7)
One of the reasons why many believers are angry, depressed and lukewarm in their journey of faith is because their primary motive for serving God is to get marital blessings from Him. And when these things are not readily available, they whine and grumble like babes.
Despite their state of barrenness, Zachariah and his wife still served God uprightly. Zachariah was busy with his priestly assignment instead of throwing tantrums (asking God why his sincere service to Him could not earn him a child). He had been a priest dedicating and naming babes for members of the congregation for several years without his own biological child, yet he remained faithful. It was during one of his priestly duties that the angel of God appeared to him with the message of hope, a message of comfort that God had answered his prayers.
To serve God faithfully does not mean He will answer us at our own scheduled time. God knows our heart desires; He knows what causes us to shed tears at night and He knows when to answer us because His plan towards us is to give us a glorious end no matter how long it will take. Still trust Him while waiting.
Ask the Lord, to let your heart worship and serve Him from a sincere posture and also let you trust Him even in the time of your waiting.
