Syrian Arab Army soldiers were present in Arima village on Friday, close to the border with Turkey and 25 km (16 miles) west of the city of Manbij.
The deployment comes after Turkish forces moved into Syria.
It also follows the announcement of US plans to withdraw troops from the country.
An anonymous Syrian officer said, "that empty village is under insurgents' control. The right of it is a sand barrier. The [insurgents] observation posts are down the hill to the right. The houses over there contain their [military] points and civilians."
