I woke up this morning with a lot of thoughts popping up in my head. I am still trying to understand on what life is all about and I am also trying to figure out why we should care so much about the things of life, worldly possession, beauty and all of those things that we tend to worry and stress ourselves about them. The truth is, I have come to understand better why the word of God says, most of these things are distractions and it will not lead us to anywhere rather it can only bring more sorrows especially when we attach so much importance to them.
Please, don’t get the wrong signals here. I am not condemning the good things in life because they make life comfortable and a lot easier. As a matter of fact, some of these things are a necessity, but my concern is how much importance we have placed on those worldly possessions. Often times, we see these things as a do or die affair, I hear things like “I am going to have this at all cost, I can do anything to have them”
My aunt funeral was buried last week, but I just realized, she wasn’t buried with her wealth, after all. It was just her and the casket down 6 feet grave. This also got me thinking, I mean, why should I worry so much about the material things of this world? The Bible says, after death comes judgment, I will be the only one standing before His throne to give an account of my life and I will not be judged based on my worldly possession rather I will be judged based on how I have lived my life. I will be asked based on how I was able to relate with others and my service to God. Now, the question is, why do we spend so much time trying to focus on things that are not needed when we are gone? I mean, why can’t we focus more on the essence of our existence?
Again, I am also still trying to understand what the fuss is all about. Why is it that we seem to hate each other in the world today? Why are we killing and fighting each other? For instance, In Nigeria, it baffles me whenever I see people fighting over worldly possessions and I begin to wonder what they intend to achieve from the whole thing. Why are we fighting over which religion is the best? As in, where did we get the impression that God wants us to kill each other over which religion is supreme? I am very sure we will not be asked which church denomination we attended while on earth. Although it is also very important to attend a Bible-believing church, this doesn’t mean we should see people from another church as sinners. Nobody should be claiming church seniority or fight over which church doctrine is the best. Remember, the Bible warns us about man-made doctrines, what we should be concerned about is standard and the principle of God which should supersede any man-made church doctrines.
Frankly, these things are not necessary. It will not be needed at the judgment day because there are more important things to care for. We should be more concerned about how to establish a personal relationship with God by having a personal relationship with Him. We should be more concerned about how to relate with others irrespective of tribe, religion, church denomination, status, and language because I believe, this is the part that interest God the most according to His word. God is not interested in how many houses you have acquired so far in life and you want to know why? It is because we have a better mansion waiting for us in heaven. He is not interested in how many cars plus designer bags, shoes, and clothes you’ve got so far rather He is very much interested in how you have lived your life while on earth, He wants to know how many souls you have won for the sake of the kingdom. He wants to know how well you have treated the poor and the orphans within your neighborhood. He wants to know how well you have used the gifts, talents, and wealth given to you in order to make the world a better place. How much you have impacted the lives of others. Remember, you must not be rich to do this. These are some of the things we should care about and not the other way round.
Well, this is a wakeup call to all believers who want to live a meaningful life here on earth. A purpose driven life! The truth is, staying focus on the essence of creation is a little bit demanding because a lot of things can make anyone shift focus, but we can always find solace in the word of God and rely on the Holy Spirit to constantly remind us of the things we need to do. Anyone can fall victim here but the ability to fall back on track lies within you and the value you have placed on God’s word. No one is perfect for we are all working towards it, but one thing is certain, we can do all things through Christ that gives us grace, strength, and mercy. I pray God will see us through, amen!
