I decided that it was high time I threw my hat in the ring and got into the Three Tune Tuesday thingy. I have been enjoying the posts in secret over the last while and like the concept of being introduced to some new and old tunes and musicians.
I'll take it slow and just kick off with some of my favourite female voices.
Sunset by Kate Bush
Kate Bush has been one of my favourite musicians since I fell in love with her sound and image as a boy. I have my son singing her tunes before he could talk and with the recent use of Running up that hill in Stranger things, it is nice to see the rest of the world catch up to just how amazing she is. I am sure in later instalments she will make a reappearance and I will go into more depth about her but for now, I will drop this little tune from her comeback album Aerial from 2015. I waited 13 years for this album oh boy was it worth it.
The track Sunset is very laid back with wonderful jazzy instrumentals. Her voice is like it is waking up after a long hibernation stretching itself and getting up to speed. My favourite parts are when the music stops and then comes back after a moment of anticipation. Kate is wonderful as ever.
Murder in Maryland Park by Stina Nordenstam
I believe Stina had popular success with Little Star but for me, this is the best tune on And she closed her eyes. I don't know what the song is about but I am mesmerized by her voice and production. It is like she is sitting right beside me singing sweet nothing in my ear. Definitely one for the headphones.
Samson by Regina Spektor
Another amazing voice. I have a love-hate relationship with Regina. I will put her on Spotify and I start to swoon with her sound but as the tracks go on I will get my fill and have to turn her off. The sweetness of her voice grows to a crescendo a then, all I have is a bitter aftertaste.
But this track from Begin to hope is when she brings her best sweetness.
Interestingly all of these songs have one thing in common, which in music I always find attractive and that is the use of silence. Hope you like them as much as I do and I will begin to think of next week's song mix and also try finding a better post image. Looking forward to hearing what others have on offer.
