Many great relationships have been flushed down the drain on the pursuit to acquire more wealth. People become desperate and greedy thus would'nt mind exchanging a relationship that took years to nurture in exchange for a bag of money.
A friend of mine Ken got a contract from a multi national company to supply a particular goods to them. He was so fortunate to have won the contract and we all called it a miracle. The contract was the type that elevates one from nobody to a millionaire. Everyone of us was happy for him but there was a problem.
Finance
The contract was running in millions of dollars and there was no way he can finance such. We have only one option and that was the bank.
The day we were to go to the bank, he told us about his mentor whom he has known for fifteen years. Chief Bob was a very wealthy man and he was the one Ken always run to for mentorship and guidance. Ken calls him Big Daddy and he once told Ken that he has high tendency of becoming a billionaire before the age of 40.
Ken laughed it out but deep inside he offered a silent prayer to heaven to make it happen
In less than 30 minutes Ken was able to convince us how it's better to get Bob on board so that he can fund the contract.
That evening, he went to his house and explained everything to him. He showed Chief Bob all evidences to prove to him that it was not scam but real. Chief Bob was happy and he congratulated Ken in advance.
Consider it a done deal
He promised to source for the money with his influence and help him execute the contract. Ken was elated as he broke the news to us.The next two days we went for a meeting in Chief's house to discuss more about the contract. The excitement on Ken and Chief's face was palpable.
In the next meeting, Chief's gateman told us that chief cancelled because he got an important call and have to fly to the US.
We didn't hear from Chief for the next two weeks and Ken was already getting tensed up. He went to his house over and over again but they kept telling him that chief have not returned. Ken feared that Chief might be down with an illness and not getting better.
So we went back to our plan A; The Bank
They requested for some documents and letter from the company. When my friend got to the company, he received the most devastating news of his life that the company have cancelled the contract. Their reason was that because of his delay they perceived that he doesn't have money to fund the contract.
Two months later, Ken was fortunate to run into one of the managers in the company. He told him that there was nothing he can do as the contract has already been awarded to someone else. He called the name of the company that got the contract.
The man lobbied his way into that contract
Ken stood there for ten minutes fixated.
It was Chief's company.
