There are some things that we parents never see coming especially when it comes to our children and there are some that we were lucky enough to notice the signs and ofcourse activate pro-active measures.
I can remember the day i came back from work exhausted and my daughters ran towards me with their hands open to welcome me.
It was during that heart warming hug that i found out that my five years old was having fever. I have to confirm with a thermometer and truely her temperature was slightly above normal. She have to take paracetamol that night and in the morning i took her for medical checkup even though she kept insisting that she was alright. The cause of the fever was discovered after they ran series of test and she got treated. I was happy that it was discovered on time which ofcourse saved me money, emotional pain and time.
There were other times that i wasn't so lucky and got to find out when she was already knocked down by the illness. That is when emotional pain and stress would creep in after all no parents can stand seeing their child sick. Sometimes it feels as if i was the one sick and the feeling won't go away untill that child is declared well again.
Few months ago, i noticed few raches on my daughter's face . While i wondered why the raches were there , i applied a good portion of sodocream that would help to clear them. Waking up in the morning, i discovered that the raches had spread all over her body thus we had to cancel school for that day.
At the hospital we discovered that it was food allergy and the necessary treatment was administered to her. As we drove home i have to call the school to know what exactly she ate for lunch the previous day and the ingredients they used to prepare it.
The head teacher promised to look into it but i took a decision that day to prepare her food myself at home and pack it neatly in a cooler for her.
Being a parent is not easy, sometimes you have to take some certain decisions for the sake of your children. Just like my friend Deborah who quit her well paid 9 to 5 and started her own business from the comfort of her home just so she can be there for her children.
