It's been five years since the cruel hands of death snatched away her husband and the father of her three lovely boys.

She was left to face the ugly culture that widows passed through but guess what she changed the narrative.

Allow me to explain to you what culture demands from a woman who lost her husband.

  • First is that she have to shave her hair to depict a woman who is grieving.
  • she will stay indoor and not to be seen outside for at least a month after burying her husband.
  • She is only allowed to wear white for 6 months after burying her husband. White clothes, white shoes, white handbags, white jewelries.
  • That six months is a period of mourning so it's a taboo for her to date any man.

This and more are what Igbo culture imposed on widows both young or old. Some suffer even worse fate which include being disinherited of her husband's properties.

This woman came and challenged some of the babaric cultures. After the death of her husband, her husband's people wanted to take her kids away from her but she fought them all.

No one dares take a lion's cubs and lives to tell the story

She fought them until it rained blood before they released her children to her. They told her that they would never offer her any financial help and she would definitely crawl back to beg them.

She beat her chest and told them that she will never beg for food that God who provides for the sparrows would provide for her and her children

It's been five years and she has not called them to beg. She is single handedly training her three sons and basking in the euphoria of God's mercy.

If the world want you to cry; laugh
If they want you to crawl : walk

Nobody is your God and she refused to believe whatever reality people want to impose on her and chose her own reality.

Not even the unfavorable culture and tradition was able to stop her.

She is a warrior!

She asked me just recently...

Look at Donkun's sons, won' he be proud of me for fighting for our sons?

Then she added...

Just a little time, they will go back and claim everything that belonged to their father.

When these boys become men, it's going to be war, they would go back to teach those who fought their mum a lesson.

Afterall an igbo adage says Onye tosia ochere ibe ya

Meaning

The young will be adult someday
